On Thursday, January 21st at 1pm ET we will have our next livestream on Improving Social Media: Content Moderation with special guests Sarah T. Roberts, PhD (co-founder and Co-Director of the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry, author of Behind the Screen: Content Moderation in the Shadows of Social Media) & Murtaza Shaikh, PhD (Senior Advisor on Hate Speech, Social Media and Minorities to UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues). The conversation will be moderated by David Ryan Polgar, founder & director of All Tech Is Human.
This is part of our monthly livestream series with TheBridge. In addition, our partners at The Radical AI Podcast will be developing the conversation into a podcast & actionable items/curated resources as part of our Continue the Conversation series! We have been able to hold 15 livestreams in 2020, on topics such as building anti-racist technology, human-centered design, & the need for âtechplomacy.â
On February 17th we will be releasing a new resource, Improving Social Media: The People, Organizations, & Ideas for a Better Tech Future. Since our founding in 2018, we have noticed a major need in piecing together the people, orgs, and ideas of the Responsible Tech movement. This builds community, promotes the knowledge-sharing & collaboration, and creates pathways for NEW VOICES to enter the field. Similar to our recent Guide to Responsible Tech: How to Get Involved & Build a Better Tech Future and The Business Case for AI Ethics: Moving From Theory to Action, these are collaborative projects that build community and point people toward action.
On December 17th we released the first draft of The Business Case for AI Ethics: Moving From Theory to Action. We had 100 collaborators assist with putting this together, along with 23 interviews with a diverse range of AI Ethics experts. You can read our first draft HERE. Prior to our final draft release in March 2021, we are seeking the feedback of the community. Weâd love your feedback HERE.
While Covid certainly derailed our in-person gatherings in 2020, we were able to quickly pivot and hold 15 livestreams in 2020! A big thank you for TheBridge, which is our partner for the regular livestream series we have been holding. We will have monthly livestream in 2021 and would love to hear your thoughts for topics & guests. Watch our recent one above on The Business Case for AI Ethics, which you can also listen to on The Radical AI Podcast (Spotify & Apple Podcasts). Also! Read the curated resources & action items as part of our Continue the Conversation series with The Radical AI Podcast.
We have received a lot of messages about starting a reading & discussion groupâŠso we are starting one! This is a great way to connect with others in the space, build community, and get plugged into the ecosystem. Felicia Chen, a collaborator with All Tech Is Human who assisted on our Guide to Responsible Tech: How to Get Involved & Build a Better Tech Future, is heading up this initiative! Read about it HERE.
Bogdana (Bobi) Rakova wrote a wonderful piece for us on the intermingling between Artificial Intelligence and Community Well-being: a few perspectives on the possibilities. Read here. You may have seen Bobi in our Responsible Tech Guide, or on stage at All Tech Is Human: San Francisco last September delivering this lightning talk.
đ€¶đHappy Holidays!
