All Tech Is Human, Thorn, and Leading Tech Companies Forge Vital Collaboration Around Generative AI Safety By Design Principles
Plus, learn more about our upcoming Trust & Safety gathering on May 14 in NYC, our return to London in June, the launch of UNet, and upcoming livestreams!
👋 Are you ready to tackle thorny tech & society issues? We are.
In today’s newsletter, you’ll read about generative AI principles established with our partner Thorn to help reduce harms against children. There is a corresponding white paper, media coverage, a livestream happening today, and an added Safety by Design panel to our upcoming NYC gathering, The Future of Trust & Safety on May 14.
👉 Our team is also busy planning Responsible Tech London (June 27) and our Responsible Tech Summit (September 16, NYC), along with expanding our University Network to have 100 clubs by 2025, and fine-tuning our new affiliates program. We are also currently running seven working groups helping to develop our upcoming courses, continuing our mentorship program, and building out our weekly livestream series (join us May 7 to discuss Malicious Actors).
🤯We know that’s a lot; but there is a method to our madness. 📜 Read about our mission here. If you are unsure how to get involved with All Tech Is Human, we have made this helpful guide. Everything we do is focused on community-building, education, and careers. This creates the change needed to build a better tech future!
👇 Now, onto the newsletter! As always, reach out with your ideas. We need everyone involved to tackle complex tech & society issues.
👍 We’re proud to play a role in an important alliance that commits to implementing principles to guard against the production and dissemination of AI-generated child sexual abuse material (AIG-CSAM) and other harms. This collaboration and ongoing commitment to protecting children is aligned with All Tech Is Human’s longtime mission to unite key stakeholders to tackle thorny tech & society issues while moving at the speed of tech.
The significant harms associated with AIG-CSAM are a prime example of the importance of getting ahead of emerging technologies and how they can be abused. As we have seen with recent harmful image creation and sharing across middle and high schools, the misuse of generative AI is vexing schools, parents, law enforcement, and students alike. How do we get ahead of the situation? That’s where we come in.
🏃♀️ The speed of innovation typically outstrips society’s ability to consider its impact and create appropriate guardrails. That is why this commitment to generative AI principles designed to address harms against children is so important and pivotal. It is a proactive measure that embeds safety measures into AI products. The hard work is ongoing, but this is a major step in the right direction.
Together, we are tackling this complex issue.
