📚 Check Out 30 Books Empowering the Responsible Tech Movement
Last month, we published our annual Responsible Tech Summer Reading List. The list features a curated list of more than 30 books that are educating, inspiring, and informing the growing Responsible Tech Movement. Here are a few select recommendations from All Tech Is Human’s staff as you embark on your weekend.
Cory Doctorow’s The Internet Con: How To Seize the Means of Computation is a deep-dive into how interoperability can solve our most urgent tech issues. Doctorow offers critical in-depth analysis, history, and solutions for how we can retrieve the best parts of the early Internet to create an even better tech future. You can watch our livestream with Doctorow and purchase the book now. - Josh Chapdelaine
Want to read a smart perspective on AI that isn’t all doom and gloom? In The AI Mirror, Shannon Vallor asks us to speculate on AI’s yet unrealized potential to promote human flourishing. Great for anyone wanting to imagine new possibilities from our technologies rather than just be critical of its faults (which of course reflect our own). - Sarah Welsh
📺 How Can We Mitigate AI Risks?
While AI systems can power immense innovation, without proper design, policies, and governance, they also have the power to do great harm. The downside risks range from algorithmic bias and labor force disruption to supercharging deceptive content and disinformation. While there is no one solution for mitigating all AI risks, there is a growing ecosystem of technologies, strategies, and policies to reduce risks and bolster resilience.
Maggie Munts (Director of Public Affairs and Impact, Truepic), Dr. Hany Farid (Professor, University of California, Berkeley), and Dr. Rebecca Portnoff (Vice President, Data Science, Thorn) joined Sandra Khalil (Associate Director, All Tech Is Human) for an in-depth discussion of the solutions landscape, both technical and non-technical, for mitigating AI risks and bridging trust deficits in the age of AI.
