NEW Responsible Tech Knowledge Hub, livestreams, in-person gatherings, and more!
Plus speakers announced for our upcoming summits in NYC + London, videos from our last gathering, upcoming Responsible Tech Career Night, and joining the Task Force for a Trustworthy Future Web
🧠We’re thrilled to launch our Responsible Tech Knowledge Hub as we curate our significant amount of resources
Here at All Tech Is Human, we semi-jokingly like to tell people we are drowning in intelligence. Well, with the new release of our Responsible Tech Knowledge Hub we will all now be able to swim in a sea of resources around public interest technology, Trust & Safety, Responsible AI, Tech Policy, and Youth/Tech/Wellbeing.
How do we gather our resources? Our non-profit is designed to concurrently learn from the community and inform the community; we do this through a highly participatory structure filled with numerous activities that promote knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and understanding of a global, multi-stakeholder, and multidisciplinary network. We are learning from our Slack group that is now approaching 5k members from 60 countries, our mentorship program, Responsible Tech University Network, working groups, summits, livestreams, and regular mixers. In other words, we are plugged into a tremendous range of individuals and organizations that are regularly sharing resources and insight with us. You can find all of our projects here.
🤯We have so many upcoming happenings that we’re going to put them in chronological order so your head doesn’t explode.
📅On Wed, Feb 15th at 1pm ET you can join our livestream about working in Responsible Tech!
How do you build a career around tackling wicked tech & society issues? If you are curious about growing your career in Responsible Tech and wondering who is hiring, this livestream is for you! We’ll be joined by special guest Chanel Cornett (Counsel, Trust & Safety at Zoom), along with guests from CivicActions, Credo AI, Exygy, and New_ Public stopping by to let us know about some roles they have open.
Here is an earlier panel conversation we did with Chanel Cornett at the Australian Embassy in Washington, DC (Youth, Tech, and Wellbeing event). Also featuring Medha Tare (Senior Researcher at the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop) and Arielle Geismar (youth mental health advocate)
🎉On Feb 23rd we’re launching our monthly livestream series with New_ Public
How can AI be a tool to reimagine creative practices? What are ways AI can be harnessed as a tool for both harm and empowerment? This new livestream series is kicking off on Thurs, Feb 23rd from 5 to 6:30 pm ET, we hope you can join us for our first Digital Playground, where we will be joined by artist, technologist, and researcher Ari Melenciano.

The Digital Playground Series is part of New_ Public and All Tech Is Human’s year-long partnership as part of Community by Design, with the support of the Unfinished Network, to identify, define and map thriving healthy digital public spaces focused on building pluralistic, inclusive, open online spaces, and prioritizing the needs of their communities.

“The power of technology to facilitate harms including misinformation, extremism, surveillance, harassment, and violence is a growing societal concern, and the focus of Trust and Safety (T&S) work. Trust & Safety: A Snapshot of the Field 2022 looks at what the work is and what it may become.Spurred by a wave of job openings in Summer and Fall 2021, I analyzed 112 job postings and compared them with six interviews with T&S professionals. Looking at the field itself and the degree of alignment between companies’ and workers’ perspectives on T&S work is crucial, especially in light of the subsequent layoffs. Report findings include the functions of T&S work, the skills and mindsets needed to do the work, and trends in the field.
I hope that workers can use findings to articulate areas for change and improvement within their companies and their field, and that companies will use the recommendations to improve T&S work, ultimately better protecting users and society as a whole. You can read the full report or highlights from it.A new round of interviews is underway. Trust & Safety professionals are invited to participate in a 1-hour video interview through Arizona State University. Participation is voluntary and uncompensated, and you must be 18 or older. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.” -Toby Shulruff
