Organized in just a few days, there was a capacity crowd (and overflow room) to attend the book launch for Dr. Joy Buolamwini, celebrating Unmasking AI: My Mission to Protect What is Human in a World of Machines, held at Ford Foundation in NYC on October 31st.
Dr. Joy had a captivating fireside chat with Sinead Bovell, founder of WAYE and a speaker at our recent Responsible Tech Summit. You can watch this talk above; the conversation was also filmed for C-SPAN’s Book TV to play at a later date.
📖The book release celebration was a collaboration between All Tech Is Human, the Algorithmic Justice League, the Ford Foundation, and The Institute of Global Politics (IGP) at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University.

Last month we put out a call for our first All Tech Is Human affiliate cohort, tapping into our direct interactions with thousands of individuals through our regular summits, mixers, working groups, reports, large Slack community, mentorship program, university network, and more. Mentor applications for our 2024 Responsible Tech Mentorship program are now open! Past mentors have worked in trust & safety, ethical AI, tech policy, UX research, accessible design, and many other areas. The program is virtual, so we welcome applications from people all over the world! The application form is here.
🤯Did you know over 1k people have gone through our mentorship program in the last two years?! And did you know our current cohort has representation from 40 countries?! Our mentorship program continues to expand, with a strong interest in mentorship requiring an extensive network of talented and passionate mentors (we received 700 applications in two weeks for our current cohort). Our Responsible Tech mentors provide guidance and support to mentees as they navigate their careers in the field. Mentees might be students, early career professionals, seasoned practitioners, and career changers.

It features a wide range of roles for a variety of backgrounds and disciplines and provides an easy-to-navigate pathway for people to discover a new role at any point in their career - from entry-level to executive.
Our organization deeply believes that we can build a better tech future by having a better mix of individuals involved in the process. That’s why we are focused on illuminating pathways for new voices to enter the ecosystem and provide support for continued growth for those already involved. Outside of our job board, we also have a Responsible Tech Talent Pool of over 2k individuals, our mentorship program discussed above, and Tekalo for technologists looking for social impact roles.
