In today’s newsletter, you’ll read about the release of our Responsible Tech Org List 2024, speakers for our Feb 28th Responsible Tech DC: A Better Tech Future for Youth, sign-ups for our working groups, and invitations going out for our special gathering in NYC for strengthening the info ecosystem on March 6. We’re expecting a packed house for our upcoming Responsible Tech Mixer + Data Action Day in NYC on Jan 29th (waitlist) w/ Tracy Chou, Julia Angwin, and more.
We also have two livestreams this week: on Wednesday we are talking to Hilke Schellmann (author of The Algorithm) for our Responsible Tech Author Series, and on Thursday we have a Global Majority Spotlight: Elections, a Tech & Democracy discussion. And happening on Tuesday, Sarah Welsh from our team is speaking on a livestream about social impact careers. Oh, and we are setting up a virtual hackathon on Evaluating Responsible AI Governance Maturity Jan 31 and Feb 7.

All Tech Is Human is proud to host Responsible Tech DC: A Better Tech Future for Youth, a key gathering of Trust & Safety professionals, researchers, civil society orgs, youth advocates, youth leaders, and other groups on Wednesday, February 28, at Union Stage in Washington, DC from 6:00-9:00 PM ET. Responsible Tech DC: A Better Tech Future for Youth will feature two panels, complimentary food and drink, and dedicated time to socialize, share resources, foster valuable connections, and learn from each other.

In this panel, we will look at the current landscape of online safety, the regulation that is guiding Trust & Safety practices, and how platforms are thinking about the technology and tooling to support user safety.

All Tech Is Human is thrilled to be partnering with TechBetter, led by Ravit Dotan, PhD, for an invite-only virtual hackathon, supported by Notre Dame - IBM Tech Ethics Lab, on "Evaluating Responsible AI Governance Maturity" being held on Wed, Jan. 31st from 1-2:30pm ET and Wed, Feb. 7th from 1-2:30pm ET!
This hackathon is held as a part of an interdisciplinary research project to develop a Responsible AI Governance Maturity Model that is rigorous, based on widely accepted resources, and empirically informed. Participants’ analyses and inputs will have a prominent role in shaping the model. Participants will benefit from strengthening their AI ethics skills, deep diving into the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, and learning how to evaluate companies they encounter as consumers, employees, prospective employees, or in other capacities.
🏆 Hackathon winners will receive a trophy and will be celebrated in the All Tech Is Human community through our newsletter (15k subscribers), Slack community (7k members), on social media (23k+ followers on LinkedIn), and with a blog post. All participants who complete the hackathon will receive a certificate of completion for “Evaluating Responsible AI Governance Maturity” and hackathon swag for bragging rights. We will also be joined by Renée Cummings, Senior Fellow for AI, Data & Public Policy at All Tech Is Human.

Please join us for a special livestream featuring the author of The Algorithm: How AI Decides Who Gets Hired, Monitored, Promoted, and Fired and Why We Need to Fight Back Now, Hilke Schellmann, in conversation with All Tech Is Human’s Executive Director Rebekah Tweed on Wednesday, January 24, at 1 PM ET on LinkedIn.
👉Hilke Schellmann is an Emmy‑winning investigative reporter and journalism professor at NYU. Her work has been published in The New York Times, The Guardian, and The Wall Street Journal, where she recently led a team of seven investigating how artificial intelligence is changing our lives. She will be in discussion with All Tech Is Human’s Rebekah Tweed.

As we rapidly expand, we continue to strengthen our policies to ensure an appropriate balance with promoting robust debate and conversation, while also maintaining a safe and respectful environment.

The first asks 8 questions about you and your experience so far with All Tech Is Human, and the second section asks 7 questions about your feedback on the draft Code of Conduct. In addition to sharing your feedback via the form, we have organized three feedback sessions, for these days:
