💙We like bringing people together to co-create a better tech future.

We’re still riding high from our recent Tech Policy Around the World event we did with the Tony Blair Institute in San Francisco on April 27th. This gathering was held at the beautiful Internet Archive, a church that houses our digital history (if you haven’t used their Wayback Machine, you’re in for a treat). The Internet Archive is also a member of the Unfinished Network that our organization recently joined, so this was a nice way to unite multiple groups for a bigger impact.

Do you have an idea for a future San Francisco gathering? Reach out our way, as we are aiming to continue the momentum (pre-Covid, we also held a large full-day conference in Sept 2019; you can watch all the videos here) that featured speakers such as the FCC’s Jessica Rosenworcel (fireside chat w/ Allie Brandenburger from TheBridge), Mia Dand (Lighthouse3, Women in AI Ethics), Bogdana Rokova, Anne Collier, Tami Bhaumik (Vice President of Digital Civility Roblox), Vicki Harrison (Center For Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing, Stanford), Christopher Ategeka founder of UCOT) and more.

🤯We are building something really special with our Responsible Tech Summit on May 20th

A big thank you to all of those from the community who have reached out to help put together an incredible all-day Responsible Tech Summit on Friday, May 20th. Some of the speakers include Julie Inman Grant (eSafety Commissioner of Australia), Yu Ping Chan (Senior Programme Officer, Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology at the United Nations), Yael Eisenstat (democracy advocate), Suzanne Nossel (CEO of PEN America), Dhanaraj Thakur (Research Director at the Center for Democracy & Technology), Natalia Domagala (Head of Data and AI Ethics at UK Cabinet Office), Justin Hendrix (CEO & Editor of Tech Policy Press), Matt Nguyen (Digital Governance and Rights Lead, Tony Blair Institute), Kat Townsend (Director for Policy at the Web Foundation), Dona Bellow (Trust & Safety Professional Association advisor) and many more!

You can register on the Responsible Tech Summit event site to watch the livestream, which is from 9:45am to 4:30 pm ET (it’s free)! We had an outpouring of interest for the limited seating available in-person, which is now a waiting list. Our event is being held in NYC at the Consulate General of Canada in New York. In addition, we will have future videos from all of the fireside chats and panel discussions. Looking at our list of attendees, we have an exciting mix of individuals across civil society, government, industry, and academia. Our aim with the gathering is to better unite the people and organizations doing valuable (but often disconnected) work that greatly benefits from a more cohesive, networked Responsible Tech movement.

🕶️That’s kinda what we do here at All Tech Is Human. The future of tech is the future of democracy, so it behooves us to understand the values and concerns of the community and embed this into the process of how we develop and deploy technology.

🥽What would a human-centered metaverse look like? We are holding an immersive experience gathering in NYC on June 16th to explore.

A unifying thread in all of our work at All Tech Is Human is that we are shifting the future of tech toward our needs as humans. Heck, it’s right there is our name. That’s why we are involved in the HX Project and released our HX Report: Aligning Our Tech Future With our Human Experience. Time to put “users” out to pasture and center the conversation on our needs and values as humans.

We are thrilled to announce to be partnering with imre, a modern digital marketing agency, for an upcoming immersive experience + panel + mixer on Thurs, June 16th at imre’s downtown Manhattan location from 4 to 6pm. Seating is limited to 50 attendees, so please use our interest form to, well, express your interest!

📓Do you have an idea you’d like to explore on our platform? Inquire about our Community Voices program!

While there is a lot of darkness in the world at this moment, we are perpetually uplifted by the generosity and curiosity of the Responsible Tech community. Many of you have reached out about writing for our blog, which has evolved into our Community Voices program. We recently had Josh Lam and Vivian Chong write about Elon Musk’s Impact on Twitter’s Stakeholders: A Candidate’s Perspective, and Hana Gabrielle Bidon publish The Importance of Intersectionality in Tech!

Interested in getting involved? Reach out to Cate Gwin from our team. For this, and other questions about getting more involved with All Tech Is Human and the movement at large, schedule some time with Cate in her office hours.

🎈Our Slack community now has over 3k members so we are dropping some virtual balloons to celebrate.

Since launching our Slack 17 months ago, the space has quickly evolved into a social network for the Responsible Tech ecosystem. There are a wide variety of backgrounds from across the globe that deeply care about building a better tech future, and our aim has always been around involving a broad range of backgrounds to find community, share resources, and sparks moments of collaboration. Every time we feel down, we just read over the introductions channel and scan over all of the incredible projects people are involved with the the overflowing level of passion.

It’s pretty cool.

And since we’re celebrating, we are also happy about this recent media coverage by Protocol of our Responsible Tech Job Board that interviewed Rebekah Tweed, our Program Director who runs our job board, mentorship program, and university ambassadors program.

We love hearing success stories from the community and how All Tech Is Human has affected you. Do you have a story to tell? Let us know here.
