💘Our Responsible Tech Cupid is here for people who love to tackle wicked tech & society issues. Join our post-Valentine’s Day livestream!
We can build a better tech future by diversifying the types of individuals involved in creating our tech future. This means all disciplines, backgrounds, and perspectives. Thorny issues related to social media, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies depend on various types of thinkers so we can have a better grasp on the social impacts, values, and interests involved.
The tough part, as we have heard countless times here all All Tech Is Human, is the HOW. How do I build a career in Responsible Tech? What are the new-ish job titles? What education do I need? How can I upskill? Where can I find mentorship? Where do I find others to network with?
That’s where we come in! Join us on Wed, Feb 15th at 1pm ET to learn about the evolving Responsible Tech landscape from All Tech Is Human’s Rebekah Tweed and David Ryan Polgar, along with a few special guests that will be joining us to discuss their own career journey + open roles.
Careers are a major part of the work of our non-profit, which is why we have a Responsible Tech Job Board, Responsible Tech Guide, community Slack group to meet others, a mentorship program, Responsible Tech Talent Pool, open working groups that develop reports, and regular summits & mixers. We have also partnered with the Tech Stewardship Practice Program to create a free online All Tech Is Human cohort (sign up today to join our newest cohort; a self-paced program with regular check-ins to strengthen your Responsible Tech muscles and earn a micro-credential). You can always find all of our projects and links here.

👋In our last newsletter we announced our next Responsible Tech Mixer for March 15th. We are almost at capacity.
So, it turns out there are a lot of people who want to build community, share resources, and co-create a tech future aligned with the public interest. There are a lot of stuffy events in life; this isn’t one of them. Sure, we are talking about serious topics, but the vibe is about welcoming new people to the movement, celebrating our differences, and tackling wicked problems together.
This gathering is also the official book release for Meredith Broussard’s upcoming More Than a Glitch. Meredith will be doing a fireside chat on stage with us.The first 50 registered attendees to show up will receive a free copy! We also have a couple of All Tech Is Human t-shirts laying around that we’ll give away. There will also be some food and drinks.
It’ll be a good time. You should be there if you are in, or can get to, NYC. We’ll be at Betaworks from 6 to 8:30 pm. All of this is made possible through our partnership and collaboration with Project Liberty, a non-profit focused on fixing technology and saving democracy.
🗽Our Tech & Democracy summit in NYC on March 1st is shaping up nicely! Can’t make it? You can sign up for our livestream.
March 1st sounded far away when we started planning this, but now it is right around the corner. Time to get excited.
We have people joining from Accountable Tech, Civics Unplugged, Consumer Reports, Data & Society, Freedom House, Free Press, Google, Integrity Institute, Just Tech, Meta, Microsoft, Moonshot, Mozilla Foundation, Project Liberty, Public Knowledge, Tech Policy Press, UNDP, UNICEF, a mix of governmental officials, and a good selection of universities, and many more! This gathering is for 120 individuals across civil society, government, industry, and academia and is being held at the Consulate General of Canada in NYC (our partner + host).
Have you checked out our schedule of speakers and panel topics? You can view that here.
🤦♀️Don’t just talk about young people; involve them. Join our upcoming roundtable in NYC about the role of Gen Z in the Responsible Tech movement. Collaboration with Civics Unplugged.
Whether you are youth (18-25) involved in the movement to build a better tech future, or involved in centering youth in the conversation, we’d love for you to join us in person in Manhattan on Thurs, Feb 23rd for a intimate roundtable conversation from 4 to 5:30 in collaboration with Civics Unplugged.
From the All Tech Is Human team, this is being led by Sandra Khalil and Selene Hernandez.
Are you outside of NYC but interested in joining virtually? Just let us know through our interest form.
🤯Our very first summit in the UK is becoming kind of a big deal.
Well hello, London. We’ll be announcing some of the speakers for our first summit in the UK in our next newsletter.
Our organization has been busy sifting through interest from over 350 people so far, from orgs and companies such as Ada Lovelace Institute, Alan Turing Institute, Atlantic Council, BSR, Chatham House, DCMS, Deloitte, Discord, EY, GIFCT, Google, Ipsos, Internet Commission, Lego, Meta, Ofcom, Oversight Board, Oxford Internet Institute, Milltown Partners, Royal Society, Salesforce, Spotify, Tech Against Terrorism, TikTok, Twitch, and many more.
This is entirely free, but capacity is limited to 250 and there has been overwhelming demand so far for the upcoming summit at The Shard on the 18th of April. Invitations are going out this week, so if you know a person or org that should really be there, please have them fill out our interest form.
Our first UK summit is made possible through the support of Crisp, a Kroll business.
😎Cool happenings in Responsible Tech
What’s happenin’? We want to know. No really, that’s kind of our thing here.
Do let us know about new and interesting initiatives, events, research, new orgs being launched, and more. Do you have something you’d like to share with us? Reach out to Sandra Khalil from our team or ping her directly on our community Slack group.
📅Save the date -- Thursday, Feb. 23rd: All Tech Is Human is partnering with New_ Public to launch Digital Playgrounds, a virtual monthly program series hosted in the spirit of discovery, experimentation, and creation of healthier digital public spaces. The Digital Playground Series is part of All Tech Is Human and New_ Public’s year-long partnership, with the support of the Unfinished Network, to identify, define and map thriving healthy digital public spaces – broadly defined as platforms and projects focused on building pluralistic, inclusive, open online spaces, prioritizing the needs of their communities over profit.
For our Digital Playgrounds series, we invite creative technologists, designers and builders, digital community stewards, and artists to play with, explore, and reimagine the tools, spaces, and communities that bridge our digital and physical worlds. Digital Playgrounds will involve a 30-40 minute exploration of a digital or online space, tool, and the practices that hold it together, facilitated by a guest presenter. Each playground will close with a 30-40 minute deep-dive for participants to workshop, ask questions, and get their hands on an aspect of the session’s topic. Join us for our first Digital Playground with artist, technologist, and researcher Ari Melenciano on Feb 23, 2023 from 5:00 - 6:30pm EST!
