Upcoming Responsible AI course, workshop, livestreams and more
Plus a Responsible Tech Mixer in NYC and opportunities to volunteer with All Tech Is Human
How is your week going? We’re glad you’re here and involved in the Responsible Tech movement. For those of you based in the US, like our team, we hope you had a nice 4th of July weekend. It is certainly a reflective time to consider our fight 249 years ago to control our destiny.
In a similar vein, the Responsible Tech movement is not just fighting against technological harms, but also fighting for a future that elevates the human experience and respects our agency. That’s why we’re called All Tech Is Human, which our Founder, David Ryan Polgar, wrote about in our last newsletter. All Tech Is Human is fighting for a future that values joy, creativity, and human connection. Just like the right to the pursuit of happiness, as prominently outlined in the Declaration of Independence.
🤔How do we do this? By strengthening the overall Responsible Tech ecosystem through relationship-building, creating solution-making spaces, and distributing knowledge at the speed of tech. Ecosystem-building requires a focus on community, education, and careers (hello, next generation).
In today’s newsletter, you’ll read about our two upcoming gatherings in London (Online Safety on July 16 and AI Governance on July 17), a livestream on whether we should be voting with our smartphones, and a Responsible Tech Mixer being held in NYC on August 18. You’ll also learn about our upcoming Responsible AI course and an AI Governance workshop being planned for early September. We’re also putting out a call for volunteers, as we gear up to release our next Responsible Tech Guide (w/ print edition) and hold our Responsible Tech Summit.
Now, onto the newsletter! 👇
Join us on August 18th in NYC for a Responsible Tech Mixer + Live Podcast Taping!
As we mentioned in a recent newsletter, community is resilience—so let’s come together. We hope you can join us on Monday, August 18th, for a casual Responsible Tech Mixer + live podcast taping of Ethical Machines with Reid Blackman. Reid, author of the book with the same name, will be in conversation with All Tech Is Human’s David Ryan Polgar.
Bonus: Rose Guingrich, a Princeton University GradFUTURES Social Impact Fellow with All Tech Is Human, will be there to discuss the report she is leading, AI Companions and Chatbots, that will be released in late July. If that is a topic area you are interested in, let us know through our form here.
Our Responsible Tech Mixers fill up fast, so sign up below if you can make it!
🗓️All Tech Is Human to Release a Responsible AI Course in October
This October, All Tech Is Human is launching a dynamic new Responsible AI course designed for both current and aspiring RAI practitioners. Led by ATIH Executive Director, Rebekah Tweed, and award-winning AI Ethicist, Professor Renée Cummings, with contributions from ATIH affiliates Heidi Hysell and Savannah Thais, this course will equip participants with the essential knowledge to effectively build and operationalize Responsible AI and AI Governance programs within organizations.
Rooted in practical insights and real-world applications, the course offers a foundational understanding of Responsible AI: its principles, history, and evolution as a field, as well as an exploration of current roles, case studies, industry best practices, and the evolving governance landscape.
Do you have information that would be helpful as this comes together? Interested in potentially partnering with us to extend its reach? Fill out our interest form below!
📜Related Resource: We recently put out a mini-guide on Building a Career in Responsible AI here, which can also be downloaded (along with all of our reports) through our website here.
🗓️Related Workshop: All Tech Is Human is organizing an AI Governance workshop to take place in NYC in early September, and we’re also aiming to gather the community in San Francisco again this year. We’ll also be publishing takeaways from our upcoming AI Governance workshop in London next week. To get involved with our AI Governance work, please fill out our interest form.
🗳️Should you be able to vote with your smartphone?! Participate in our upcoming livestream on July 24
Join All Tech Is Human's executive director, Rebekah Tweed, in conversation with venture capitalist, political strategist, philanthropist, and writer, Bradley Tusk, on his national campaign to bring mobile voting to all U.S. elections. The discussion will build on Bradley's July 15th TED talk as well as his 2024 book, Vote With Your Phone: Why Mobile Voting Is Our Final Shot at Saving Democracy.
📜Related Resource: The ability to vote and have your voice heard is a fundamental right (which is why increasing voting participation is crucial). Our Senior Fellow, Alexix Crews, recently launched a series, Global Election Guide Series, with a recent overview of upcoming elections in Malawi.
📢Open Call to Volunteer with All Tech Is Human
We frequently get questions about volunteering or interning with All Tech Is Human, so we are setting up an open call to express your interest. In the past, we have had fellows from Princeton, Stanford, and Columbia (stemming from their social impact programs).
If you have an interest in assisting with our programs (mentorship, Slack community), resources (Responsible Tech Guide, Responsible Tech Job Board, reports), or gatherings (NYC, DC, SF, London), we’d love to hear from you!
